Prince George's Birth Doctor Awarded Knighthood By the Queen

After Marcus Setchell helped deliver Kate Middleton and Prince William's greatest gift, Prince George, in July, he received a reward of his own. The royal surgeon and gynecologist was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order as a personal gift from Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen announced the honor in her New Year's Honours List on Dec. 31. Dr. Setchell delayed his retirement after Middleton, 31, and William, 31, asked him to oversee the birth of their first son.

Also awarded a special honor was Caroline Cassells, the matron at King Edward VII's Hospital, where Middleton was treated for severe morning sickness early into her pregnancy. Cassells was named Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order for her help with the Duchess of Cambridge.

The royal family welcomed Prince George on July 22 and the little tot has since had a series of public appearances, most noteworthy being his October christening service.

But the little prince might not being getting much quality time with his father in 2014. Prince William announced on Dec. 30 that he's returning to school as a full-time student studying agricultural management at Cambridge University.
